OPM is providing limited term appointment authorities for senior executives and temporary SES space allocations to agencies in order to expedite transition to the new administration.
It delegated a temporary allocation or five spaces to all cabinet level agencies and two to non-cabinet agencies, as well as the authority to make limited term appointments to SES positions.
The authorities may only be used to appoint individuals already slated by the incoming Administration for pre-appointment background checks.
Individuals may be appointed to a currently established general position or to a temporary position established to facilitate the transition. Appointments may be made for up to 21 days in duration and use of the authority expires on January 30.
Agencies should immediately initiate action to request a non-career appointment authority for any of these individuals who will continue to serve the Administration after that time, OPM said.
