As the Republican and Democratic conventions near, the
Office of Personnel Management has called on agencies to
prepare for disruptions in traffic and commuting patterns.
It issued a memo to agency and department heads with offices
in Boston and New York to use personnel scheduling
flexibilities to reduce the number of employees working in
and commuting through areas strained by the conventions.
In order to reduce employee traffic, OPM suggested using
the conventions as an opportunity to test and promote
telework, alternative work schedules with days-off
coinciding with the conventions, and scheduling travel for
convention days.
It also said the conventions would be a good opportunity to
test continuity of operations plans, and asked that agencies
with offices in the Thomas P. O’Neill, Jr., Federal Building
in Boston limit the number of emergency employees in that
building and make alternative arrangements for others.
