Federal Manager's Daily Report

OPM has encouraged agencies to participate in the next America’s PrepareAthon, which “builds upon the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Ready Program by adding a focused national call to action for individuals and organizations to take simple, specific actions to improve their preparedness for a potential disaster,” a memo said.

“FEMA’s goal is to increase the number of citizens who understand the hazards most relevant to their community; know the corresponding protective actions, mitigation measures, and community plans. Participants should practice a real-time behavior to increase their preparedness and contribute to whole community preparedness planning,” said the memo to agencies.

The national event will be April 30 but agencies can schedule their own events during the week prior to or the week after if needed, OPM said. “Furthermore, you can support this effort by engaging your colleagues in drills, group discussions, or exercises. Suggested topics include earthquakes, flooding, hurricanes, tornadoes, and wildfires.”

The memo said that more than 27 million people participated in the last such day of action, last September 30.
