Federal Manager's Daily Report

OPM has announced plans for a new initiative called “the REDI Roadmap” which is to stand for Recruitment, Engagement, Diversity and Inclusion. However, a formal rollout planned for earlier this week was delayed due to weather-related agency closures in the Washington, D.C. area and has been rescheduled for March 5.

According to OPM, the REDI Roadmap will be “designed to make sure we are using the latest data-driven expertise, social media tools, and collaborative thinking to continue to build, develop, and retain a purpose-driven workforce now, and for years to come.Underscoring this roadmap is a commitment to ensuring that all segments of society are represented and feel included at every level of America’s workforce.”

Another aspect of the project will be improvements to the USAJOBS site in response to feedback from job applicants, who long have complained about the difficulty in filling out applications, lack of feedback from agencies and other frustrations.

The Obama administration previously launched separate initiatives on diversity and inclusion and on improving the recruiting process, and a recent memo laid out a plan to improve employee engagement in their work. A previous “roadmap” called the end-to-end hiring roadmap started under the Bush administration, also focusing on improving the job application and hiring process.
