OPM has released job coding guidance for and a competency model for the program and project management job series, following an analysis of the skills and competencies needed for that work under the 2016 Program Management Improvement Accountability Act.
“The data collected painted a comprehensive picture of program and project management work across the federal government and was used to validate the program and project management competency model,” says a memo to agencies on chcoc.gov.
“The new codes, when combined with existing occupational series, will improve identifying federal program and project management positions and inform talent management activities for educating, recruiting, training, developing, and retaining a highly qualified program and project management workforce,” it says. Some 15,700 federal employees classified to the program management series (0340) and program management work is performed in approximately 150 occupational series
The competency model “may be used in such agency efforts as workforce planning, training and development, performance management, recruitment, and selection,” it adds.
Separately, OPM also recently posted for comment on chcoc.gov draft position qualification standards for a planned new wildlife fire management job series (0456), also designed to be “used by agencies to help improve the recruitment and hiring of talent with the needed wildland fire fighting skills.”
