The Office of Personnel Management has thinned the
number of applications to the senior executive service
development program from about 7,800 to 3,500, and
referred them to 10 agency partners, with formal offers
expected in April.
It said the 14-month “immersion” program is designed to
draw talent from “all communities” to meet leadership
opportunities prior to the retirement wave in store for
the civil service.
“Merit is the driving principle in the selection process,
and OPM has aggressively recruited candidates from
traditionally underrepresented communities both inside
and outside government,” said OPM, adding that candidates
would be exposed to competitive programs and rotational
assignments within the Executive Branch, and would
receive formal training, mentoring and periodic
performance assessments.
