Federal Manager's Daily Report

OPM director John Berry told a House appropriations panel that the White House wants to increase by 50 percent the number of eligible federal employees who telework – compared to the fiscal 2009 baseline of 102,900, by fiscal 2011.

A bill just passed in the House federal workforce subcommittee that could support that goal. The Telework Improvement Act of 2009, HR-1722, would require agencies to authorize employees to telework as much as possible without harming operations or performance, and permit employees to telework at least 20 percent of the hours worked in every two-week period, and to establish telework managing officers.

Berry, in his testimony on the White House’s budget request, laid out a number of other priorities, including getting 80 percent of major departments and agencies to meet targets for improving how hiring manager satisfaction with applicant quality, and faster hiring.
