Federal Manager's Daily Report

OPM has sent a memo to agencies encouraging them to participate in the Department of Defense Education Activity’s (DoDEA) effort to encourage students to consider federal careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).

The memo asked agencies to identify federal employees in STEM fields to guide interested students into higher levels of math, science, computer programming, and engineering coursework, and to will lead sessions designed to expose the students to federal careers and internships in STEM fields.

"The initiative brings together federal STEM professionals and DoDEA educators to create lessons and activities to engage students in making connections to real-world events, solve problems, and exploit new opportunities for collaboration," the memo said.

Employees who become involved should expect to spend about an hour a week in preparation and time commitments during the week of the actual events will vary, OPM said.
