Federal Manager's Daily Report

Agencies can quickly get up to speed and reap the benefits of crunching huge data sets to improve agency operations and missions in a variety of ways, and they shouldn”t hesitate to acquire data and services including collection, analysis and modeling tools from other agencies, according to a new report from the Partnership for Public Service: “From Data to Decisions III: Lessons from Early Analytics Programs.”

PPS, in a report prepared with IBM”s public sector business analytics and optimization practice, said agencies should collaborate to collect data and share expertise in data analysis, or analytics.

The report recommends finding authorities that already exist to pay for help – whether that be “interagency acquisition of data and services under the Economy Act, to provisions specific to your agency, such as USAID”s participating agency service and program agreements,” or even grants and memos of understanding where both agencies stand to benefit.
