OPM has issued final rules–ending a process that began with a proposal in 2008–on medical qualifications applying to certain federal jobs.
The regs specify policies on medical documentation and medical examination and/or testing for an applicant or employee whose position may or may not have medical standards and/or physical requirements.
“OPM also will seek to issue guidance from time to time as to best practices with regard to working with healthcare providers to obtain appropriate information and materials responsive to the agency’s request for information necessary and relevant to making its employment decision,” the Federal Register notice says.
They also update references and language; add and modify definitions; clarify coverage and applicability; recommend the establishment of agency medical review boards; and provide agencies guidance regarding medical evaluation procedures.
