The Office of Management and Budget’s Program Assessment
Rating Tool has been selected for one of this year’s six
Innovations in American Government Awards — jointly
administered by the Ash Institute for Democratic Governance
and Innovation at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government
and the Council for Excellence in Government.
Award winners receive a $100,000 grant to replicate their
activities.
Introduced in 2002, the 30-question PART questionnaire
is used to assess the design, goals, management and
results of federal programs. OMB says it has so far
assessed over 600 programs — representing about 60
percent of the federal budget — and that 70 percent of
those are rated at least adequate, up from 45 percent
three years ago.
