The White House and GSA have launched the pilot phase of a program designed to help business compete for some of the $50 billion in federal purchases through GSA each year.
According to GSA, participation in the “business breakthrough" program will be available to companies of all sizes but could be particularly useful to midsize companies too large to be eligible for small business set-asides but not large enough to compete with major corporations.
The program will offer workshops for companies with varying levels of experience with federal contracting to give participating companies access to information on how to succeed in federal contracting through GSA’s contracting vehicles, GSA said.
It said the program also would feature its mentor-protégé program that helps protégé businesses while providing contracting advantages to both the mentor and protégé companies.
The program will be piloted in two cities in May and is to be expanded nationally later in 2011.
