The Partnership for Public Service has said Rep. David Price, D-N.C., is preparing to introduce the Roosevelt Scholars Act of 2009, designed to fund graduate level study in exchange for a service commitment.
According to PPS, the initiative will help the government recruit and retain talent in mission-critical fields such as engineering, medicine and public health, foreign languages, IT, and law.
It compared the program to ROTC and said that over 80 leaders in colleges, universities, educational associations and good government groups are backing the program.
Price plans to introduce the act in the next few weeks. PPS said it would establish a foundation to dole out scholarships of up to $60,000 per year for a maximum of five years, and that the program could help brand the government as a place where top talent can go to make a difference
