Federal Manager's Daily Report

OPM has sent a memo to agencies reminding them of their responsibilities under a 2011 executive order designed to promote diversity and inclusion in the federal workforce.

The memo, at www.chcoc.gov/transmittals, notes that the memo tasked federal agencies to be a model employer in diversity, inclusion and sustainability, including responsibilities to:

*recruit from a diverse, qualified group of potential applicants to secure a high-performing workforce drawn from all segments of society;

*cultivate a culture that encourages collaboration, flexibility, and fairness to enable individuals to contribute to their full potential and further retention; and

*develop structures and strategies necessary for the successful growth of diversity and inclusion.

It said that 57 agencies, including all Cabinet agencies, have consolidated and streamlined their diversity and inclusiveness efforts and that agencies are using practices such as diversity and inclusion councils. “Additionally, the federal workforce is the most diverse since we’ve been tracking the data,” it says.
