Federal Manager's Daily Report

Other finalists for the SAVE award included

*IRS employee Angela Leroux proposed to cut down on shuttle bus travel between agencies. Agencies sometimes maintain buses to shuttle employees from one government office to another but they often site idle or are underutilized. Leroux proposed to eliminate or consolidate the bus service and encourage the use of conference and video calls, or provide metro cards to those with a need to travel.

*James Szender of the Department of Interior proposed that whenever possible agencies use digital equipment for transcripts instead of hiring a court reporter.

*DHS employee Laurie Dempsey proposed posting customs inspection information online. Currently, Customs ports across the country print a weekly bulletin listing all imported items that have completed the customs inspection process and that can be hundreds of pages long. The printing costs are significant and Dempsey suggested instead posting these bulletins online at CBP.gov, which would also make it far easier for individuals to access the information in the first place.

Ideas from the SAVE award program commonly also are included in budgetary plans or management actions.
