Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman Susan Collins,
R-Maine, and ranking member Joe Lieberman, D-Conn., have
announced their intention to waste no time implementing the
September 11th commission’s recommendations for intelligence
reform, among other goals.
According to a committee statement, the senators are scheduling
hearings for early August to produce legislation reorganizing
the intelligence community by October 1.
It said one recommendation they would first consider is the
creation of a national counterterrorism center and a national
intelligence director position.
“Senator Lieberman and I are committed to conducting a prompt,
thorough, and bipartisan review of the Commission’s
recommendations,” said Collins.
