The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee is set to advance several government management-related bills:
S-2834, designed to help better identify which programs with similar missions could be better coordinated or consolidated. It would hold agency leadership accountable for actions to address GAO recommendations, require them to look for opportunities to reduce duplication, and require fuller reporting on those issues.
S-1378, to authorize agency IGs to reward federal employees who find and report wasteful or fraudulent spending with a bonus worth 10 percent of the savings, up to $10,000.
S-2849, to enhance GAO’s ability to obtain federal agency records, including through bringing civil actions, and to require agencies to report to Congress on actions taken or planned in response to GAO recommendations.
S-2480, to extend protections against discrimination in the workplace based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, or disability to interns working at federal agencies.
S-2852, to set standards for publicly available government data to make it more readily usable and encouraging agencies to cooperate with entities such as universities to use data to improve government programs.
