The Office of Personnel Management has announced that it
will soon initiate the human resources line of business
reference model — with a hand from Office of Management
and Budget — to offer agencies shared HR technology solutions.
“The vision of the HRLOB is to create government-wide,
modern, cost-effective, standardized, and interoperable
HR solutions providing common core functionality to
support the strategic management of human capital,”
said OPM.
It said a task force of 22 agencies defined the program’s
vision, goals and objectives, and developed a
target-architecture, business case, and a common solution
in which service providers compete for contracts.
The HR reference model comes out of several “verification
and validation” workshops OPM sponsored last August to
update target business process for the federal government.
“Identifying the target business processes is an important
step to allow for a shared services HR model that will
lead to significant financial savings across the federal
government,” said OPM acting director Dan Blair.
OPM did not specify exactly when the services would become
available to agencies.
