A new study by the Partnership for Public Service and the
National Academy of Public Administration identifies
security, public health and engineering as the most sought
after backgrounds in the federal government.
It said the government expects to fill 37,515 security
and law enforcement related positions in the next two
years, ranging from criminal investigators to police
officers and airport screeners.
The government’s “most wanted list,” includes two-year
hiring projections for physicians, nurses, pharmacists
and medical technicians — 25,756; physicists, chemists,
biologists, botanists, veterinarians — 23,806; public
affairs specialists, human resources specialists,
congressional affairs officers – 17,353; and, IRS revenue
agents and tax examiners and contract managers – 12,985.
