MSPB has said that it will soon begin a web-based survey of federal employees on teleworking, which it said will take the selected individuals about 20 minutes to complete. The survey will go to 20,000 randomly chose employees in 13 agencies.
The survey will include demographic questions, plus questions about work-life balance issues, the employee’s knowledge, interest and requests for telework and any experiences with teleworking. Supervisors and managers also will be asked about the telework experiences of their employees.
The survey follows a recent report from OPM showing that despite advocacy from OPM, GSA and some outside interests, the number of telecommuting federal employees actually fell between 2006 and 2007, largely due to a reduction at DoD and a realization by NASA that it had been over-counting its teleworkers. However, that report also found that employees who do telecommute were doing it more often than before.
The findings of the MSPB survey will be incorporated into a report.
