The Transportation Security Administration has reversed its prior policy and will now provide reimbursement to supervisors of up to half of the cost of professional liability insurance, the Federal Managers Association has announced.
By law, agencies may reimburse employees who take out such insurance—most commonly, managerial and supervisory employees and law enforcement officers—for up to half the cost, but previously TSA had not been one of the agencies doing so.
Supervisory transportation security officers are "constantly interacting with the public in stressful circumstances," said FMA president Patricia Niehaus. "STSOs need professional liability insurance to perform their vital jobs with peace of mind. TSA did the right thing to help their employees make the responsible decision to get this insurance."
