Federal Manager's Daily Report

The TSP has released its results in the annual Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey, showing that on virtually every measure of management, it stands well above the government-wide averages.

The 200-employee TSP was ranked 5th last year among 29 agencies of its size in the annual Best Places to Work report and expects a high ranking again this year, officials said. The TSP touts those high ratings, which have continued for several years and are largely based on the viewpoint survey, in forums such as job vacancy announcements.

The TSP’s overall employee engagement index is 74, compared to the average of 68, and was up by 2 points over 2013, although it is still below the 77 point level of 2012 before certain organizational changes were made that triggered a dip in various areas. One area of particular strength is that 89 percent of employees agree that they know how their work relates to the agency’s goals and priorities, versus 81.9 percent government-wide.

One reason for the increase, officials noted, were gains in scores regarding the supervisor listening to what the employee has to say and treating employees with respect.

And while agencies in general suffered a downslope in employees’ views of all levels of management, that was not the case at the TSP. For example, 61.7 percent agreed that leaders generate high levels of motivation and commitment, versus 37.5 percent government-wide. And while only half of all employees believe their leaders have high standards of honesty and integrity and have a high level of respect for senior leadership, about three-fourths of TSP employees agreed.
