GSA has named Stephen Kempf, its assistant commissioner for acquisition management, as the new deputy commissioner of the Federal Acquisition Service.
Taking over for Tyree Vernado, who is retiring, Kempf has been with FAS for 18 years and has served as deputy assistant commissioner for integrated technology services, where he was responsible for IT schedules, government-wide acquisition contracts and network services programs.
Kempf joined GSA in 1992 as a marketing coordinator for the Office of Technology Assistance and the Center for Federal Systems Integration and Management, GSA said.
The move is the latest in shuffle within GSA that saw acting administrator Paul Prouty step down in December. Taking over for Prouty is former senior counsel Stephen Leeds, who GSA credited with helping guide the agency’s Recovery Act programs.
Leeds was also a member of the National Finance Committee for the Obama campaign.
