The American Federation of Government Employees is urging the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to avoid a second round of furloughs, following five unpaid days employees were forced to take recently.
Gabrielle Martin, president of the American Federation of Government Employees’ National Council of EEOC Locals, No. 216, asked the EEOC in a letter to consider alternatives such as “reducing wasteful management travel, reducing district budgets 5 percent commiserate with the sequestration reduction,” as well as discontinuing some service contracts and canceling an upcoming conference.
AFGE is waging an informal “stop EEOC furloughs” campaign by trying to mobilize its members and others to write the agency and communicate via social media their opposition.
