USA.gov is now offering real-time updates on food recalls, weather emergencies and a range of other topics through Notifications.USA.gov.
The Notifications.USA.gov "menu" allows visitors to sort, search, and select updates in a single location, and sign-up to have updates on topics of interest delivered to their computer desktop, smart phone, or other device, said GSA.
It said a beta test of the service began in mid-August and generated 12,000 subscriptions across 74 of the participating agencies, with the highest level of public interest occurring in areas of health, economy, energy, education, and agriculture.
The new notifications menu already includes over 7,000 updates covering 6,200 topics from across 144 federal agencies and offices, said GSA, adding that any federal agency can add feeds or e-mail notifications to the menu.
"By putting real-time notifications at citizens’ fingertips or in the palm of their hand, we have created a way for agencies to provide critical information that citizens want in ways that they want it," said David McClure, associate administrator of GSA’s office of citizen services and innovative technologies.
