The Postal Service has announced changes to its Priority Mail line-up including free insurance, improved tracking and day-specific delivery that it expects to yield over $500 million in new revenue in the next year.
Priority Mail will now provide scheduled delivery – 1-day, 2-day or 3-day based on the origin and destination of the package, said USPS.
It said it would also provide improved tracking for all Priority Mail products, and that free insurance of up to $50 or $100 could help close competitive gaps in the shipping market.
USPS said its package business grew over 14 percent in the past two years largely due to e-commerce, a trend USPS sees continuing in years to come, and it plans an aggressive marketing campaign to grab a bigger slice of the shipping market.
