The Postal Service has told the American Postal Workers Union that it will resume plans to close up to 82 mail processing plants beginning next January. Employees reassigned outside their installation are expected to move on January 10, 2015, the union said.
It said the decision was “an assault on service” and the postal network, and would lead to lower service standards and delays.
The APWU has been carrying out a national “Stop Staples” campaign to resist USPS plans to open retail counters in Staples office supply stores, and vowed to undertake a similar campaign to resist closing the mail processing plants.
