Inpatient and outpatients served by the Veterans Health Administration in 2013 rated the care they received as equal to or better than rating for private sector hospitals according to the American Customer Satisfaction Index.
The overall ACSI satisfaction index for VA was 84 for inpatient care and 82 for outpatient care, compared to 80 and 83 for the private sector.
When asked if the next time they sought care would be at a VA medical facility, 95 percent of veterans polled said it would.
Medical providers and appointment personnel received high ratings as well, with customer service remaining the highest driver of satisfaction. Scores measuring courteousness for doctors (92) and nurses (91) were down slightly however from 2012.
Physical comfort also dropped one point to 89, while the responsiveness of hospital staff to call button (85) and the degree to which patients felt treated with respect and dignity (91) fell one and two points, according to ACSI.
