Federal Manager's Daily Report

VA has announced it reduced the number of days it takes to provide benefits payments to currently enrolled students to six, fewer than half of the days it took this time last year thanks to enhancements to its automated processing system.

The Long Term Solution uses about 80 business rules to support end-to-end automation of Post-9/11 GI Bill claims, ensuring accurate payments without the need for manual handling, said VA.

It said the system, part of an ongoing transformation from paper-based to electronic claims processing, enabled it to fully automate 46 percent of incoming documents – over 115,000 of them – for enrolled students, while 33 percent were partially automated.

For new students using the benefit for the first time, the average time to establish their eligibility under the Post-9/11 GI Bill is around 24 days, VA said. It said the rules-based processing approach used with LTS is being incorporated into the VA’s technology for its paperless disability claims processing – the Veterans Benefits Management System, or VBMS.
