The Trump administration has posted a website (acquisition.gov/far-overhaul) as a resource and portal for comment on its rewrite of the Federal Acquisition Regulation under a recent executive order that criticized that guide to agency purchasing as too long, too complex and as imposing extraneous requirements.
The order required that the FAR be streamlined to ensure that it contains only provisions required by law or that are otherwise necessary to “support simplicity and usability, strengthen the efficacy of the procurement system, or protect economic or national security interests.”
What the administration is calling the resulting “Revolutionary FAR Overhaul” is focused on “eliminating unnecessary regulations, speeding up procurement, and enabling agencies to deliver better results with fewer resources,” a GSA announcement said. That includes to “eliminate non-statutory and duplicative regulations, remove DEI and wokeness, and remove burdensome requirements and adopt straightforward buyer guides.”
Those buying guides are to be “practical, category-specific resources that help agencies make better purchasing decisions in areas like technology, infrastructure, and national defense. The first guide will focus on Software as a Service, with more to follow,” it says.
“These resources are being built with feedback from the acquisition workforce and will evolve into interactive tools that deliver real-time guidance and insights,” it says.
