Federal Manager's Daily Report

DHS, with support from the White House is moving forward with plans to limit federal contracts to employers that use its E-Verify program to check employee work authorization.

The Social Security Administration and Citizenship and Immigration Services run the proram. It’s free for employers to use and compares information from I-9 employment eligibility verification forms against federal government databases to verify workers’ employment eligibility.

The federal contractor rule behind the program’s mandatory use extends it to covered federal contractors and subcontractors, including those who receive American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds.

The White House decided to move ahead with full implementation of the rule, which will apply to federal solicitations and contract awards government-wide starting on September 8, 2009.
