Flemming Awards, which honor early-career—between three and 15 years of service—federal employees in the categories of applied science and engineering, basic science, leadership and management, legal achievement, and social science.
Winners for applied science and engineering are Dr. Edwin P. Chan of the National Institute of Standards and Technology; Dr. Joseph Capobianco of the Agricultural Research Service; Dr. Sujay Kumar of NASA; Dr. Corey Love of the Naval Research Laboratory; Dr. Andrew Metcalf of the Air Force Research Laboratory; Dr. Holly Mortensen of the EPA; Dr. Natalie Pekney of the National Energy Technology Laboratory/
Dr. Michael Huber of the National Institute of Standards and Technology won the award for basic science. Dr. Sara Oliver of the National Center for Immunizations and Respiratory Diseases, CDC, won for leadership and management.
Awards for legal achievement went to Maj. Logan Daniels of the Air Force Office of the Staff Judge Advocate and to Karen Bianco and Allison Holden of the EPA. Dr. Courtney LaFountain of the GAO won for social science.
