The Army has warned its civilian employees to brace for job cuts to be included in the next budget proposal, on top of ongoing limits. “Next year, the Army team will encounter more challenges as we work to drawdown the active duty Army,” said a recent memo. “Unfortunately, our civilian employee workforce will also be affected. Though the target numbers have not yet been solidified for FY16 and beyond civilian reductions, rest assured the Army will conduct our civilian reduction strategy in a responsible, yet compassionate manner—strategically aligning resources, developing policies, and leveraging available tools to minimize the negative impact of reductions.” That latter reference likely means offers of buyouts and early retirements.
