COLA Count Remains Negative at Midpoint

Half way through the counting period for the January 2010 federal retiree COLA, the count remains in negative territory at — 3.8 percent, following an increase of 0.2 percentage points in March in the inflation index used to set the COLA. Should the count finish in negative territory, retirement benefits will be frozen but not reduced.
