At a hearing before the committee, DHS chief human capital officer Marta Brito Perez said that while the results of the government-wide survey were “disappointing,” and that the department “faces many challenges,” DHS employees “have a strong passion for our mission.” She said the department has made a high priority of improvement in personnel management, including meetings with employees, planned focus groups, use of best practices, and new leadership training programs. She also said DHS is carrying out strategies to find, hire and keep a qualified and diverse workforce.
