The Defense Department has authorized hostile fire pay for its civilian employees at the Pentagon, the World Trade Center and onboard the hijacked airplanes last September 11. The benefit was authorized by last year’s Defense Department authorization bill, which allowed federal employees to be given the same hostile fire pay available to uniformed military personnel of $150 per month. While for the most part those eligible stand to receive only one month’s hostile fire pay, those treated for injuries or wounds may be paid hostile fire pay for up to three additional months of hospitalization.
