The Pentagon has carved out an exception for 30 medical occupations from the general process of transitioning employees out of the NSPS system. While in general DoD has been moving employees out of NSPS well ahead of its deadline of December 31, 2011, it has said that certain categories of employees would remain in NSPS for various reasons. DoD said it is continuing to work on a new compensation system for occupations such as nurses, psychologists, physical therapists, medical technicians and others. DoD said it will continue to hire employees in such positions into NSPS until the new system is established or the sunset date is reached, although it is not converting any existing employees into NSPS who are not in it already.
