MSPB will soon be conducting two government-wide surveys, one of them the merit principles survey, which is taken every other year to help gauge the state of fair employment practices and other elements of the merit system. MSPB also will be conducting a new career advancement survey to gauge how federal employees move through their careers and what factors may help or hinder their career advancement. The former will be sent to a random sample of 90,000 employees and the latter to 24,000, most of whom will fill it out online. In both cases, participation is voluntary and the replies are kept confidential, with results to be collated and released in reports.
