Of federal employees not planning to look for another job in the coming year 91 percent cited their benefits as an important or very important reason they are staying, according to the Merit Systems Protection Board. MSPB said that in a survey it sent out in 2000, whose results are still being compiled, 86 percent of those planning to stay in their jobs cited job security and 82 percent cited their current job duties and responsibilities. MSPB added that “given the strong draw that these factors have for employees satisfied enough to want to stick to their federal jobs, it would seem that agencies that want to hire outside candidates should be emphasizing these factors in their recruitment strategies.” But the agency said it recently sampled 100 random vacancy announcements and found that none of them emphasized any of those factors.
