Enhanced Disability Annuities Allowed

The Office of Personnel Management says it is now allowing enhanced disability annuities for CSRS disability annuitants and their survivors if the annuitant performed at least 20 years of law enforcement officer or firefighter service. The action comes after a federal appeals court reversed OPM’s former policy of denying requests for disability annuities with that type of service computed at the higher annuity calculation rate applying in those occupations when the annuitants retired before age 50, the minimum age for enhanced law enforcement/firefighter benefits.
