Under an OPM proposal that has been introduced in Congress, federal retirees could return to work on a limited basis without having their annuity offset from their salaries but they would not be considered to be federal employees for retirement purposes, writes benefits expert Reg Jones. “As such, they wouldn’t be eligible for any additional retirement benefits, such as a supplemental annuity,” he writes.
