In general, those eligible for FEHB also are eligible under the Federal Dental and Vision Insurance Program, whose carriers are remaining the same for 2008 and whose premiums are increasing by about 1 percent on average for vision plans and about 6 percent for dental plans. Eligible persons can elect one, both or neither, and their enrollment status in FEHB does not affect their status in FEDVIP. Eligible family members are the same in both programs, although FEDVIP offers a “self-plus-one” coverage option (the “one” must be someone eligible as a family member) not available in FEHB. Like FEHB coverage, FEDVIP coverage continues unchanged from year to year if the enrollee does not make a new election.
