Meanwhile, OPM published in the August 26 Federal Register the final version of operating rules for the FEDVIP program that generally reflect policies that have been in effect since the program’s inception two years ago, but with some changes. For example, the rules clarify that while there are no preexisting condition limitations in the program, a carrier may deny benefits for replacements of teeth that were missing at the date of enrollment. Other new provisions allow cancellation of enrollment when an enrollee or his or her spouse is called to active military service, and state that if a rehired annuitant’s reemployment ends, he or she must notify the administrator within 30 days to have premiums withheld from his or her annuity payments–otherwise, the coverage will end due to non-payment of premiums.
