Opposite sex domestic partners would become eligible for coverage in the Federal Long Term Care Insurance Program on the same terms that already apply to same sex partners, under rules OPM proposed in the November 13 Federal Register. Eligibility also would apply to adult children of opposite sex partners under policies applying to stepchildren. In addition, the same eligibility rules also would apply to partners and children of active duty and retired military personnel; the 2010 expansion of eligibility for same sex partners of federal employees and retirees did not apply to them. As is currently required of same-sex partners, opposite sex partners would have to document that the partnership meets certain criteria. Similarly, if the partnership ends after an enrollment, coverage would continue so long as the premiums are paid.
