Legislation (HR-147) has been introduced in the House to repeal the government pension offset and

windfall elimination provision, two aspects of Social Security law that reduce Social Security

benefits for those also drawing an annuity from a retirement program that doesn’t include Social

Security, such as the CSRS program. More than 120 House members signed on as initial sponsors,

including Rep. Tom Davis, R-Va., the chairman of the House Government Reform Committee, the main House

panel handling federal employee matters. However, the bill falls under the control of the House Ways

and Means Committee, which has not moved repeal plans forward even though similar bills have been

introduced for many years and they have gathered large numbers of co-sponsors.
