The House has passed a bill (HR-2669) making numerous changes to college loan policies, including a provision that would forgive $5,000 in certain federal student loans to graduates who go into certain public service careers, including federal employment. It also would grant forgiveness to them after they have been making their regular payments for 10 years. The measure now moves to the Senate. The White House has expressed opposition to the forgiveness provisions and has threatened to veto the bill over other provisions.
