The two main committees overseeing federal employment matters have restructured themselves for the new Congress, with the key subcommittees revamped and renamed, dropping specific references to the federal workforce. The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, now chaired by Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., will have three subcommittees, down from five. Federal workforce matters will fall under the subcommittee on regulatory affairs and federal management, chaired by Sen. James Lankford of Oklahoma with Sen. Heidi Heitcamp of North Dakota the ranking Democrat. The Oversight and Government Reform Committee in the House, now chaired by Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, put federal employment matters under the subcommittee on government operations, chaired by Rep. Mark Meadows of North Carolina with Rep. Gerald Connolly of Virginia the ranking Democrat.
