Legislation offered in the Senate (S-1035) by Sen. Jon Corzine, D-N.J., would reduce the retirement age for National Guard and Reserve members from 60 to 55. More than 100,000 federal employees have such status, although not all of them earn enough military credits to qualify for a Guard/Reserve retirement benefit. Corzine said the measure would restore the parity that previously existed between the federal retirement program and the Guard/Reserve program.
