Mileage reimbursement rates for federal employees using their own automobiles or other vehicles are decreasing slightly, retroactive to January 1. The rates for the calendar year, as set by the General Services Administration, are: 36 cents per mile if no government owned vehicle is available; 28.5 cents per mile if a government vehicle is available; 10 cents per mile if committed to use a government owned vehicle; 27.5 cents per mile if using a motorcycle and 95.5 cents per mile if using a privately owned airplane. The most widely-watched rate, the 36 cents per mile rate, is down a half-cent per mile from the 2002 rate.
