No Open Season for FEGLI, FLTCIP

With the open season continuing for those programs, note that there are two insurance programs that are not having open seasons, the FEGLI life insurance program and the FLTCIP long-term care insurance program. FEGLI has only occasional open seasons, typically tied to changes in policies or changes in claims records that trigger a change in the premium structure; the most recent one was in 2004. During a FEGLI open season, eligible persons can enroll or increase levels of coverage without having to meet certain requirements that otherwise apply to such changes. Otherwise, enrollment changes may be made only after certain life events or on providing medical proof of insurability.
